Negotiate your own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of genre, medium, and rhetorical situation.

This outcome ties in all the rhetorical elements with meeting all the correct genre conventions. Prior to starting each genre of technical writing we began by looking at structure but also how that writing addresses each rhetorical element. Different genres use each rhetorical device differently. The purpose of instructions is much different than that of a lab report. The same goes for their audience, exigence, stance and media. Based on this we were able to set goals for our own writing to ensure that we meet each genre convention and use each rhetorical device correctly.
