Exigence

Exigence is the issue or situation behind why you are writing to begin with. The best example that comes to mind when regarding exigence is in the memo. When “analyzing” of having to identify the exigence behind a piece of technical writing memo’s are much more direct with their exigence than the other genres we discussed. For example the exigence behind the memo was the fact that the escalators don’t operate properly (figure 14). Another great example of exigence is the engineering proposal, the main exigence driving our storm shelters was the high amount of deaths caused by hurricanes in Bay County Florida (figure 15).
